Workplace - Environmental Solutions Inc.
About the Client:
Environmental Solutions Inc. (ESI) has asked you to design their new offices. ESI requires that you design a space reflective of ESI Mission Statement:
“Working as a team, we are committed to resolving global environmental issues related to water and air quality and thus improving the quality of life for many.”
The design solution must be based on goals developed in response to the program provided and the mission of ESI. The ESI requires that the proposed design enhances individual AND team-based work. ESI does a good deal of work with visitors and donors at the new offices and employees will also travel to perform consulting duties. Any proposed design should work to support these activities.
ESI employs a range of environmental consultants, many of whom have an engineering background, with some of the consultants working “in house” in permanent “owned” spaces and others doing extensive traveling (and therefore using smaller temporary workspaces). There is a strong connection between consultants, specialists, managers, and assistants, which requires communication reflected in adjacency requirements.

Functional Requirements:
- Shared, Public Focused Areas: Reception, General Conference Space, & Classroom
- Shared by all Employees: Copy & Storage, Employee Lounge, Utility Closet
- Departments:
- Consulting Department
- Accounting and Marketing Departments
- General Manager
- Human Resources Department
- Research and Law Departments
- IT Department
- Future Growth

Employee Performance Goals:
- Enhance productivity
- Hierarchy is limited because of the clear “walls” in offices
- Daylight surrounding the space so everyone has access to it
- Open offices/workspaces to promote collaboration
Concept Statement:
The concept behind this design is to create a feeling of productiveness, but also calmness. This is not an office that creates more stress on the employees than needed. It is a place where employees feel comfortable doing their work, and collaborating with their co-workers.
